Obstetrics and Gynecology

Involvement in research is an important educational opportunity for our residents. Every incoming resident is expected to take on and complete at least one scholarly research project. In order to foster an environment of inquiry, we have created an annual Research Education Curriculum with monthly lectures from our research experienced faculty. The lectures are part of the PGY1 residents education time and are open to other level residents, fellows, and attendings to further their comfort and involvement in departmental research. The concepts of study design and data analysis gives one a better critical understanding of the current literature. We have found that involvement in research makes for better evidence-based clinicians and competitive fellowship candidates.

The Research Institute at St Luke’s University Health Network was founded to help residents and faculty with all of their research needs. We have a full time biostatistician to help with complex data analysis and presentation.

Over the years, our mentoring physicians from gyn onc, MFM, REI, and urogynecology have mentored our residents and allowed them to complete projects leading to national and international presentations and publications in top-ranking medical journals.
