Resident Life

Transitional year

Residency is so much easier when you work in a supportive learning environment fostered by your co-residents, faculty and staff. At St. Luke’s University Hospital, our program is deeply committed to team based, patient centered care in an atmosphere that allows for a healthy work/life balance.

Parth Patel, MD

“Let me start off by saying that I loved my experience at St. Luke’s and loved living in the Lehigh Valley. I had heard nothing but good things about St. Luke’s from a friend of a friend before I interviewed and my year here only echoed that. St. Luke’s was my number one choice for an intern year because of the balance it offered between electives and solid foundations in medicine, critical care and emergency medicine, not to mention it was very close to my parents’ home in NJ. At St. Luke’s, everyone from the senior residents to the faculty to the ancillary staff were supportive in their efforts to help me get the most educational value out of my intern year - they assisted in my transition from a 4th year medical student to a confident resident. Throughout my year, I developed lasting relationships with my co-residents and faculty members, many of whom I consider lifelong friends. At the end of the day, if I had to do it again, I wouldn’t hesitate at all to do my intern year at St. Luke’s.”
