My Proud Story...

Over the years, there have been many times I realized how much of a difference a nurse can make in people's lives. A few months ago, I was in the line at the grocery store and a young woman approached me with 2 boys in tow. She said, "you work at St. Luke's in pediatrics and you were one of my nurses. I'm Kim." I looked at her face and I realized it was a former very ill teenage cancer patient that spent much time with us for chemo and radiation back when I was a young nurse." She proudly introduced her children and told me she was a nurses aid and was planning on going to nursing school. Back then, cancer survivors were not as common as they are today. I was thrilled to see she had children and was thriving. I was even more thrilled to know she was in healthcare and that we influenced her professional decision as well as improved her health.
